Kashmir & Stein

While in Pakistan, James took several treks into the remote area of Kashmir, known as Baltistan or “Little Tibet”, including as a member of the Saltoro Expedition of 1960. As a result he began a special collection on Kashmir and the explorer Aurel Stein, who had a significant personal and professional connection with Kashmir having translated its most important history, the Rajatarangini (“The River of Kings”). Today this collection is perhaps one of the largest such collections in the world.
